Researcher Interview

Background

Mature Woman Suffering From Backache At Home
Back pain affects about 1 in 10 Australians, and is often severe enough to restrict movement or impact daily life. Of those that have experienced an episode of LBP, many will experience a recurrence of symptoms and persistent pain.

The University of Queensland (UQ) is conducting a study which will examine people with back pain using a variety of measurement techniques, to determine why some people keep hurting their back again and again.

Benefits of Participation

  • You will receive $200.00 for participating.
  • You can receive feedback on your results for a number of back pain measurement techniques involved in the study, including motion-capture analysis, electromyography, inflammatory biomarkers, postural stability, trunk muscle coordination and others.
  • You’ll learn how you respond to back pain compared to others.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your health.
  • You will be helping to advance medical research.

Your Rights

  • Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential.
  • If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
  • The results of the study will be shared with you when all data has been analysed.

Who Can Participate?

  • Males and females aged 18-50
  • Have experienced a severe episode of lower back pain in the past week
  • Have considered seeking, or actually sought, help from a health provider (Doctor, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or other health professional)
