About the Study

Hospital: Fiona Stanley Hospital
Location: 11 Robin Warren Dr, Murdoch WA, 6150, Australia
Lead Researcher: Dr. Dominic Mallon
HREC: This study has been reviewed and approved by the South Metropolitan Health Service Human Research Ethics Committee

Looking for ways to help researchers better understand the immunity of people getting the COVID-19 vaccine? As COVID-19 is still a top health concern, research studies are vital for researchers to learn more about the pandemic, the virus, and the effects of vaccination.

The COVID-19 immunisation is our best defence against the virus. Researchers at the WA Health Department and PathWest are looking into immunity against COVID-19 and the immune response of people receiving COVID-19 vaccinations. This can be any of the COVID-19 vaccines, including Pfizer, AstraZeneca, or Moderna.

Why Participate?

  • Participants will be helping researchers better understand COVID-19 immune response and potentially develop better preventative options.
  • Participants will be contributing valuable information that may help a good cause and potentially end this pandemic.
  • Participants will be reimbursed for parking costs at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
  • Participants will be helping to advance COVID-19 immunity and immune response research.

Your Rights

  • If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you can withdraw at any time.
  • Any information that you provide will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your health as it relates to the study.

Who can Participate?

  • Individuals  aged 18 years old or older
  • Those planning to receive one or more of their COVID-19 immunisations, including boosters
  • Must be planning to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or have gotten their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
  • If you are able to attend the study visits at Fiona Stanley Hospital (Harry Perkins Building) over a 2-3 year period

Key Study Details:

The study team can explain the research in its entirety but some details are:

  • Participants will be asked to attend up to 8 study visits over a two-three year period. These visits will be held at the Harry Perkins Building South at Fiona Stanley Hospital. They will take about 15-30 minutes each visit. Parking vouchers will be provided to participants to cover the cost of parking.
  • Participation will involve collecting blood and saliva samples. Researchers are asking individuals to donate samples to a biobank for COVID-19 research in Western Australia. A biobank is a collection of human biological samples and data that are stored securely. Biobanks are an essential resource to help medical researchers better understand health and disease.
  • Participation will involve gathering medical history and completing health surveys.
  • Researchers will ask participants about their medical history and health background information.
