Background

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Symptoms of depression can be different for each child/adolescent. Children may experience mood changes, getting angry and upset easily, body aches or pain, and/or feelings of being alone.

The University of Cincinnati is conducting a study on an investigational study medication targeted towards children with depression. The study aims to find out the effectiveness of the medication in treating symptoms.

This study seeks children diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). Participants are required to attend study visits at the research site and will be reimbursed for time and travel.  

Why Participate? 

  • All study visits, tests, and procedures will be provided at no cost to participants.
  • Your child may experience an improvement in your depression symptoms.
  • Study participants may receive up to $625 for participating in this study.
  • You and your child will be helping to advance medical research.
  • Your child’s participation in this study may help others children who have depression in the future by taking part in the development of new medicine for this condition.

Your Rights

  • If you and your child decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
  • Your child’s records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your child’s health as it relates to the study.

Who Can Participate?

  • Children aged 7-11 suffering from depression.
  • Able to attend 13 study visits at the research site over approximately 18 weeks.
  • Does not have an immediate family member who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
