Background

Even after short periods of physical inactivity there can be challenges to restore muscle health in adults. Currently strategies are often compromised by an inability to identify individual needs and tailored exercise plan.

Investigators at the University of Texas Medical Branch examine the changes in the structure and function of skeletal muscle during periods of inactivity and rehabilitation through this research. This involves not using 1 leg for 7-days (by using a leg sling  and crutches) and then participating in a 2-week exercise rehabilitation program (resistance exercise or walking). Researchers hope this will help to address critical knowledge gaps around restoring muscle health following periods of inactivity.

This study seeks healthy men and postmenopausal women aged 50-65. Participants are required to attend 13 study visits at the research site over a 3-month period and will be reimbursed for participating in this study.

  • Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your health as it relates to the study.

Who Can Participate?

  • Healthy men and postmenopausal women aged 50-65.
