How Does Exercise Impact Your Body Clock? Study Seeks Overweight, Inactive Men to Participate

Researcher Interview

Background

We all have a natural body clock. It is set by sleeping patterns, temperature, physical activity and our diets.

It is believed that disruptions to the the body clock can be detrimental to one’s health, and contribute to diseases like obesity and diabetes. This study will investigate how exercise, and the timing of when we exercise,  affects the body clock, when consuming a high fat diet.  

This study seeks overweight men aged 30 – 45 years old, and non-smokers, who are able to attend up to 14  study visits at the research site. All participants are required to attend the research site twice per day on three occasions: once in the morning and once in the evening on a sequential Thursday, Tuesday and Monday (i.e. over a 12 day period; 6 visits total) . Participants will be provided with all meals for 11 days.

Who Can Participate?

  • Overweight men aged 30 – 45 years old who do not regularly exercise
  • Eat breakfast regularly
  • Not on a strict diet
  • Not a shift worker
  • Not a smoker
  • Able to attend up to 14 study visits at the research site over 3 weeks
  • Willing to undergo 6 muscle biopsies throughout study duration
