Research Center: Yale University
Location: New Haven, CT 06519, United States
Lead Researcher: Dr. Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, Ph.D.

Can e-cigarettes help people stop smoking? E-cigarettes are handheld devices that allow users to inhale nicotine in a vapor. Some people use e-cigarettes to stop cigarette smoking , but more research is needed to see if doing so is effective.

This research study aims to understand how different flavors can make e-cigarettes more attractive. The results of this study may help lawmakers understand and decide what type of e-cigarettes should be sold in communities and whether or not they will help people to stop smoking cigarettes.

Why Participate?

  • Participants will be given an e-cigarette to use throughout the study, while they are at the research site.
  • Participants will be compensated up to $575 for participating in this study. An additional compensation of $25 may also be received for each friend a participant refers to participate in the study.
  • Participants will be helping to advance medical research on e-cigarettes.
  • Participants can opt to join other research studies on smoking that are conducted by the research center if they find that they are not eligible for this study or if they want to participate while they wait for a spot in this study to open.
  • After completing the study, participants will be given information about the potential risks of continued smoking and will be provided with encouragement to think about changing their tobacco use behaviors.

  • Participants will be asked to complete 30-minute follow-up appointments via telephone, 1 month and 6 months after their last session.
  • Participants can opt to join other research studies on smoking that are conducted by the research center if they find that they are not eligible for this study, if they want to participate while they wait for a spot in this study to open, or after completing this study.
