When depression doesn’t lift, even after treatment, it can feel exhausting, isolating, and unfair.
If you’ve tried multiple antidepressants and still feel weighed down by persistent symptoms, you’re not alone. Researchers across Australia are studying an investigational treatment for people living with ongoing, moderate to severe depression. This research aims to explore new approaches for those whose depression has not improved enough with standard medications.

You may be eligible to take part in this clinical research study.
By completing a short, confidential questionnaire, you can find out whether this study might be right for you. Participation involves study visits, health assessments, and support from experienced research teams. Your information is kept private, there is no obligation to take part, and compensation may be available.

• Participants may receive a new potential treatment for treatment-resistant depression at no cost.
• Participants may be compensated for participating in this study. 
• Participants will receive comfort items during the study, such as a blanket and an eye mask. 
• Participants may experience improvements in symptoms related to treatment-resistant depression. 
• Participants will be contributing valuable information that may benefit those with treatment-resistant depression in the future.
• Participants will be helping to advance medical research.

• You will receive a detailed outline of all details of the study, including treatment, risks, and procedures, and you will be given the chance to ask study staff questions before you decide whether to participate.
• If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you can withdraw at any time
• Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by the law

Who Can Participate:

• Are between 18 and 65 years old.
• Have been diagnosed with depression by a healthcare professional and are currently experiencing depressive symptoms.
• Have had more than one episode of depression, or a single episode lasting at least 3 months.
• Have tried two to five antidepressant medications for your current depression that did not help enough.
• Are currently experiencing moderate to severe depression, based on standard assessments used by the study team.
• Must be able to attend the research centre for at least 9 study visits over about 5 months and participate in the study procedures.

Who Cannot Participate:

• Have ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a psychotic disorder, or depression with psychotic symptoms.
• Have certain mental health, neurological, heart, or other serious medical conditions that could make participation unsafe or affect the study results.
• Have had significant problems with drugs, alcohol, or substance use in recent months.
• Have used DMT at any point in their lifetime or have had more than 2 administrations of any other psychedelic drug

The study team will explain the research in its entirety, but some details include:

• Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires and interviews about their health, mood, and medical history; take part in eligibility, safety, and effectiveness assessments; and report any side effects or health changes during the study.
• Participants will be asked to provide biological samples (such as blood) for laboratory testing, including drug level measurements, biomarkers, and optional genetic analyses, to help researchers understand how the study medication works in the body.
• Participants will be asked to take part in study visits and activities that may include additional assessments and audio/video recordings to support study procedures and data collection.
