Background

Pneumonia is a lung infection that builds up fluid in the lungs and makes breathing difficult. Pneumonia is the most common cause of hospital admissions for US adults. About 1 million adults in the United States seek care in a hospital due to pneumonia every year. It is also estimated that 50,000 US adults die from this disease.

This study seeks to investigate the potential benefit of a new potentially improved vaccine for pneumonia. Antibiotics may be effective for pneumonia caused by bacteria. However, for viral causes of pneumonia, antibiotics are ineffective. This improved version of the pneumonia vaccine may have better coverage against different types of pneumonia

The study seeks adults aged 65 to 85 years old who are generally healthy. Participants are required to attend 3-5 study site visits at the research site for over approximately 10 months. Through participating in this study, acquiring pneumonia may be prevented.

Why Participate?

  • You may be prevented from getting pneumonia.
  • Your immunity may be strengthened to fight against pneumonia.
  • You may receive an improved vaccine for pneumonia at no cost.
  • You will be compensated $60-75 for participating in this study.
  • You will be helping to advance medical research.

Your Rights
