Background
COPD is a disease frequently caused by tobacco use, which causes swelling and destruction of the lungs and results in symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath and phlegm production. COPD is generally a progressive disease that gets worse over time and is associated with flare-ups.
Previous studies have shown that a particular type of white blood cell called eosinophils are involved in the inflammation of air passages and may play an important role in the symptoms that people with COPD experience. Because of this, researchers are now looking into a new investigational medication that may help reduce the number of eosinophils in the body and therefore decrease inflammation in the lungs.
This study seeks men and women who currently suffer from moderate to severe COPD. Participants are required to numerous study visits at the research site over a long period and will be compensated up to $800 – $900 for participating in this study.
