Background
Type 2 Diabetes is a metabolic disease often leading to various health complications, including heart disease, blindness, kidney disease, and neuropathy. Reducing blood sugar reduces the damaging effects of Type 2 diabetes.
Findings from a study being conducted at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center will provide doctors and scientists with new insight into the underlying biology of Type 2 Diabetes. This insight will be used to guide the development of improved treatment and prevention strategies.
This study seeks men and women who have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes or may potentially have prediabetes (meaning your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not yet high enough for you to be diagnosed with diabetes). Participants are required to attend 8 study visits at the research site over an approximately 4 month period and will be compensated up to $1200 for participating in this study. The study may involve a supervised lifestyle intervention, using diet and exercise.
Why Participate?
- You may see an improvement in your blood sugar and better manage your diabetes symptoms without medication.
- You will gain knowledge of your current health status through the medical information obtained from the body composition, exercise, and metabolic testing.
- You will be compensated up to $1200 for participating in this study.
- You will be helping to advance medical research relating to Type 2 Diabetes.
Your Rights
- If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
- Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
