Location: The Daniel Mannix Building, Australian Catholic University (ACU), 18 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy 3065 VIC
Lead Doctors: Dr Brooke Devlin & Professor John Hawley

Background

Potatoes are relatively nutrient dense yet are often avoided as they are a high glycaemic index (GI) food. People with type 2 diabetes are encouraged to avoid high GI foods to prevent diabetes related complications. However, researchers have found that more investigation is needed when understanding a diet that includes potatoes in a real-world setting.

Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the body’s blood glucose response following the consumption of a potato-based meal for dinner in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Findings may help to understand if there can be broader food options for those with diabetes.

This study seeks men and women who are currently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Participants are required to attend a minimum of 18 study visits at the research site over a 2 month period and will be reimbursed up to $400 for travel and related expenses.
