Background
Suicide is a complex and sensitive issue that is a serious public health concern. Efforts are being made to understand why a person dies by suicide in order to create effective interventions.
This research study aims to learn about the experiences and signs that precede and maintain suicidal thoughts and behavior among active-duty military members. This is a virtual research study open nationwide in the United States as well as international military bases.
Researchers are inviting adults 18 to 65 years old who serve or have served in the military to join this online study. Participants must be willing to comply with all the necessary study requirements. Compensation will be available to eligible individuals for participating in this study.

- If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
- Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
- Qualified health professionals will monitor your health as it relates to the study.
Who Can Participate?
- Adults aged 18 to 65 years old who had thoughts about suicide in the past 6 months and/or have attempted suicide in the past year.
- Participants must be active duty.
- Participants must have a reliable internet capable device.
- Participants must be able to complete 1 online assessment (that includes various tasks and surveys) that would take about 45-60 minutes to complete.
- Participants must be able to complete brief online surveys (1-3 minutes) through a free app called RealLife Experience 4 times for 30 days. Participants will receive alerts when it is time to complete the survey.
- Participants must be able to attend 1-2 virtual study sessions for over approximately 4 months.
- Participants must be willing to complete 2 follow-up assessments 1 and 3 months after the main study has ended.
Please be informed that this study will hold any information that you give with utmost confidentiality and will only be used for the purpose of this research study.
