About the Study
Every day, people with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) face the unknown, but what if movement could make a difference? Researchers at Victoria University are exploring whether personalised exercise might help protect the motor system and improve quality of life for people living with MND.
If you’ve been recently diagnosed with MND and can travel to Footscray, you may be able to take part in this groundbreaking research as part of one of two groups (either exercise or control). Exercise training is completed at Victoria University Rehabilitation Clinic or potentially at a gym near you.
This is your chance to contribute to the future of MND care.
Spots are limited – help researchers uncover the potential of exercise as a therapy. Sign up today!
Why Participate?
- Participants can take part in a research study exploring a potential new approach to managing Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at no cost.
- Participants may experience improvements in physical function and quality of life, though benefits cannot be guaranteed.
- By joining, participants will help researchers better understand how exercise might affect the brain, spinal cord, and muscles of people with MND.
- This study is a chance to support future care strategies and contribute to important medical research.
- Participants who complete the study will receive up to $500 in gift card reimbursements for travel-related expenses.
Your Rights
- You will receive a detailed outline of all the study features and requirements, including therapies, risks, and procedures, and you will be given the chance to ask study staff questions before you decide whether to participate.
- If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you can withdraw at any time.
- Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by the law.
Who Can Participate?
Eligible:
- Men and women aged 18 -80 years who are diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
- Must not have another medical condition that would make exercise unsafe, such as active cancer, or severe heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease
- Must not have participated in another clinical trial in the last 30 days
- Must be able to attend the research centre for approximately 11–13 study visits over 6 months, and take part in the exercise intervention
- Exercise training is completed at the Victoria University Rehabilitation Centre. However, training can be completed at a gym close to you (rather than Victoria University) if the gym allows and if you hold a membership there.
