About the Studies

Have you ever wondered why some kids have asthma attacks more often than others? Researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital are working on two important studies to find answers.

The CHEETAH study aims to discover what factors lead to asthma attacks in children. By collecting airway samples, they hope to understand what causes asthma symptoms and attacks.

The IDEA study focuses on a new treatment for difficult-to-control asthma. This study will see if the medication Dupixent® (Dupilumab) works better for certain kids based on their genes.

Both studies aim to improve how asthma is treated and managed. They could help doctors create better treatment plans and provide new insights into asthma. This research might also help families better understand and control asthma symptoms. These studies are important not only for kids with asthma but also for everyone who wants to know more about this condition.

Why Participate?

  • Participants may receive a new potential treatment for asthma at no cost. They will help researchers study a new treatment for difficult-to-control asthma, including the medication Dupixent® (Dupilumab), and understand why this medication may be more effective for certain kids based on their genes.
  • Participants will be compensated up to $870 for participating in these studies. Compensation will only be provided to eligible participants who complete the study.
  • Participants may experience improvements in their asthma symptoms.
  • Participants will be contributing valuable information that may benefit kids with asthma in the future.
  • Participants will be helping to advance medical research.
  • Participants will learn why some kids have asthma attacks more often than others.
  • Participants will help improve the treatment and management of asthma, assist doctors in creating better treatment plans, and provide new insights into asthma.
  • Participants will help families better understand and control asthma symptoms.

  • If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you can withdraw at any time.
  • Any information that you provide will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your health as it relates to the study.

Who Can Participate?

  • For IDEA Study: People aged 12 and above who have been diagnosed with asthma and who are on publicly funded HealthCare
  • For CHEETAH Study: Kids aged 6 – 17 who have OR have not been diagnosed with asthma

About the Research Center

Boston Children’s Hospital
The Asthma and Allergy Clinical Research Center at Boston Children’s Hospital specializes in the research of asthma and allergy disorders in children and adults. Under the leadership of Dr. Wanda Phipatanakul, we conduct clinical research to determine how environmental, epidemiological, and genetic risk factors impact the development and severity of asthma and allergies in children and adults.

Please note:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the researchers would like to assure the participants that ensuring their and the study staff’s safety is of utmost importance.
