Dysmenorrhoea is chronic, cyclical pelvic pain associated with menstruation. The diagnosis of dysmenorrhea is made when the pain is significant enough to require painkillers or interrupt and limit daily life. The symptoms usually commence prior to the start of menstruation and can continue for several days. It is estimated that as many as 45% to 90% of reproductively aged women experience dysmenorrhea, although many do not seek treatment.

The pain associated with dysmenorrhea is generally a cramping sensation concentrated in the lower abdomen, although it can also cause pain in the thighs and lower back. Other symptoms can include nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, headache and fatigue.

• The trial medication will be provided at no cost, and upon completion participants will receive 6 months supply of the medication at no cost.
