Researcher Interview
Background
Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) causes a slight but noticeable decline in mental abilities, such as memory loss and impaired thinking. It is estimated that up to 35% of Australians aged 70 years and older have MCI and there are currently no known effective treatments.
This short study aims to increase our knowledge of the brain activity of people with MCI. This is important for understanding the disease and how it works as well as for the development of future treatments.
Men and women aged 60+ who have noticed a slight decline in their memory and/or other mental abilities are invited to participate. Following a screening visit, participants are required to attend 2 study visits at the research site in Campbelltown and have one MRI scan at Macquarie Medical Imaging at Macquarie University Hospital over 1 week. Participants will be reimbursed $120 for their travel expenses and will receive free parking.
Benefits of Participation
- You will receive feedback about your mental condition at the end of the study, and information on what you can do to reduce your risk of future cognitive decline including clinical trial opportunities.
- You will be helping to advance medical research, which could assist in the development of effective treatments in the future for people with Mild Cognitive Impairment.
- You will be compensated $120 for your travel expenses.
Your Rights
- If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
- Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential.
