Background
This study aims to learn more about the different pathways, resources, and services that individuals may use to help them overcome an alcohol problem. The information gained from this research may potentially help other organizations that focus on alcohol use disorder recovery.
This is a naturalistic study where we conduct in-person interviews over time to understand the process of change.
Interested participants must be 18 years old and above. They must’ve made a recovery attempt in the last 90 days or plan to make a recovery attempt in the next 14 days. Participants must attend 7 study assessment interviews at the research site in Boston for over 2 years. Further, participants will be compensated up to $455 for their participation in this study.

Who Can Participate?
- Adults aged 18 years old and above.
- Must’ve made a recovery attempt in the last 90 days OR plan to make a recovery attempt in the next 14 days.
- Able to attend 7 study assessment interviews at the research site in Boston over 2 years.
Please note: for those who interested and are living within the Massachusetts area but NOT in Boston, participants must be willing to travel to Boston for 7 study assessment interviews over a 2-year period.
Please note:
Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the study team is currently shifting to remote assessments to ensure the safety of participants as well as the study staff. Half the assessments will be conducted through the phone and half through email.
