For Researchers

Advertise to our Patient Database

Since 2006 Trialfacts has maintained a database of patients who are interested in participating in clinical research, which now numbers over 25,000 patients across Australia and New Zealand. This real-time database provides a highly qualified source of patients for most studies, as the patients have contacted Trialfacts through our website and have asked to be informed about new recruiting studies. These patients are highly motivated, understand the clinical trial process, and many have participated in previous trials. Trialfacts has invested heavily since 2006 to build this database of qualified patients, and is the only organisation with access to this resource.

Trialfacts takes the hassle out of communicating directly and regularly with the patients. Within the practice this can be very costly as well as time consuming. Give the job to Nick and his team who will set up the process and get it done effectively without it impacting on staff in a local situation.

Metro Spinal Clinic, a participant in the BioAssets Development Corporation’s sciatica study, engaged the services of Trialfacts as part of our recruitment strategy. Trialfacts were able to identify potential study participants through online advertising, newspaper and radio, along with organising for one of our co-investigators to discuss the study during a prime-time TV slot. These sophisticated tactics along with their thorough online and over the phone pre-screening processes, ensured that only the most suitable candidates were directed to our site for further evaluation.

This saved our clinic valuable time and resources, giving us the best opportunity to meet both recruitment and budget targets. We were very impressed with high volume of referrals that Trialfacts had generated for our site, and having worked with a handful of other agencies, I can honestly say that I have never seen results such as these. I have no hesitation in recommending Trialfacts to our sponsors for any future trials that we conduct at our clinic.

Examples Of Our Work

Trialfacts demonstrates its efficiency by providing patient recruitment and automated screening services to recruit over 3,000 volunteers for the largest clinical trial ever to be conducted in Australia and New Zealand

Trialfacts ran a very successful online marketing campaign which resulted in over 4,000 volunteer referrals for the Australian Clinical Research Organisation (ACRO) in less than three and a half months. The online recruitment campaign allowed ACRO to randomise over 40% of the 7,500 total patients required for this competitive study, despite operating only four of the seventeen sites.

Trialfacts was instrumental in our ability to enrol 3,300 patients into a Flu vaccine trial in 12 weeks, a feat unmatched in Australian clinical trials to my knowledge. We were delighted with their professionalism and performance, and the competitive advantage that it afforded us.
Dr. Jeff Karrasch, Medical Director, ACRO

To manage such a large number of patients, Trialfacts utilised its custom developed screening software. The marketing campaign directed interested patients to an online questionnaire which determined their eligibility. This ensured quality referrals and allowed site staff to maximise enrolment in a short duration for a very competitive study.

Trialfacts deploys its communication platform to provide study communications with 4,300 patients across Australia and New Zealand.

Trialfacts deployed its flexible communication platform to contact over 4,300 patients twice a week for six months, and provide individual appointment reminders. This allowed investigator sites that lacked the resources to undertake such an onerous task to comply with the protocol and focus their staffing resources on patient visits.

Trialfacts takes the hassle out of communicating directly and regularly with the patients. Within the practice this can be very costly as well as time consuming. Give the job to Nick and his team who will set up the process and get it done effectively without it impacting on staff in a local situation.
Anne Connelly, Manager, RMC Medical Research Ltd

Trialfacts’ communication platforms enables study communication and retention campaigns via email, SMS, post and phone call, provides detailed logging of all communications and is 21 CFR 11 and HIPAA compliant.

Trialfacts helps bridge the gap in Oncological Studies

Trialfacts has successfully applied its online patient recruitment expertise to oncological studies. While Trialfacts does utilise its 25,000 plus patient database in all trials, online advertising is particularly relevant to oncological studies. More and more Australians are searching for health information online, and this is particularly true for more serious health conditions. In addition to the patients themselves, family and friends also turn to the online medium as a convenient and extensive source of health information.

Case Study: Breast Cancer

In one recent research study Trialfacts was engaged by Zest Healthcare Communications to recruit twenty-five breast cancer patients on current hormonal therapy, aged 50 to 70, in proximity to the Sydney CBD. Trialfacts prepared a strategy utilising its resources with the Trialfacts real-time database and targeted online advertising. Through use of these resources, Trialfacts was able to fully recruit the required patients in a three day period. The client was very pleased with the results of Trialfacts patient recruitment initiatives and regularly uses Trialfacts to recruit patients for their studies.

Trialfacts’ work for us on this project was more than satisfactory
Fiona Grigg, Managing Director, Zest Healthcare Communications

Case Study: Lung Cancer

Trialfacts is able to work with clients at any stage of the patient recruitment phase. Often Trialfacts’ patient recruitment services are engaged to rescue trials which have suffered delays or failed to achieve randomisation targets.

In a particularly challenging study, Trialfacts was engaged by AusTrials to recruit patients with lung cancer where the eligibility criteria were extremely narrow and recruitment very difficult. Trialfacts was aware that many patients would need to be screened to find the remaining patients AusTrials required for their study. Trialfacts prepared a strategy that targeted the specific type of patients required as they sought treatment options online, and used its screening technology to eliminate ineligible candidates. The patients were recruited promptly and AusTrials was delighted with the results.

The method by which Trialfacts targets patients online is exceptionally specific, which allows for cost efficient advertising in longer term oncological studies with small recruitment quotas due to patient scarcity.

Trialfacts successfully recruits for a challenging national clinical trial involving an epidural treatment for Sciatica.

Trialfacts undertook patient recruitment services for BioAssets Development Corporation (BDC) for a clinical trial conducted in Australia. Trialfacts developed a custom solution including online marketing services, screening, media services, strategic advice and a sophisticated real-time reporting system to meet the needs of the trial sponsor and investigator sites.

The trial required patients who had only recently developed sciatic pain but were willing to undergo an invasive spinal treatment. Trialfacts recruited the following number of patients that met this and the remaining initial screening criteria:

Adelaide: 256
Fremantle: 20
Melbourne (Site A): 144
Melbourne (Site B): 41
Newcastle: 14
Perth: 310
Sydney: 163
Total: 947

Note: Recruitment efforts were concentrated around sites with larger capacity (eg. Adelaide), and some sites such as Fremantle and Newcastle were initiated late in the trial.

Trialfacts achieved this by coordinating a large online advertising campaign, utilising a PR campaign involving radio and prime-time national TV current affair programs, and developing a sophisticated and comprehensive automated screening process.

I have no hesitation in recommending Trialfacts to our sponsors for any future trials that we conduct at our clinic.
Dr. Adele Barnard PhD, Clinical Research Manager, Metro Spinal Clinic

Trialfacts also provided ongoing strategic advice and analysis over an eight month period as the recruitment phase of the trial progressed, including forecasts and recommendations of changes to eligibility criteria, site selection advice and technological solutions to increasing and developing tracking and reporting requirements.

The trial was recruited successfully and BioAssets Development Corporation (BDC) was acquired by Cephalon following positive interim study results.

Trialfacts utilises its 25,000 plus patient database to seek out and successfully recruit Acute Herpes Simplex subjects.

Applied Science & Nutrition (ASN) engaged Trialfacts to recruit 60 patients in a study in oral acute herpes simplex. Trialfacts prepared a patient recruitment strategy that utilised its database and online advertising initiatives to attract more than 100 referrals.

Trialfacts successfully recruited 60 patients for Applied Science & Nutrition (ASN) in a study in oral acute herpes simplex, commonly referred to as “cold sores”. Successful recruitment was achieved by utilising Trialfacts’ database of over 25,000 patients in combination with its online screening technology. To reach the patient recruitment quota, Trialfacts targeted patients with current cold sores, patients who frequently experienced cold sores, as well as members of its database who knew someone who had current or frequently experienced cold sores.

Trialfacts provided over 100 referrals to successfully recruit for this study, of which more than half were recruited within the first two days of recruitment, and over one third had current cold sores.

The advantages of recruiting from Trialfacts’ patient database are that the patients are educated about clinical trials and have asked to be contacted about relevant clinical research. Many patients within the database have also participated in previous studies. These characteristics combine to result in extremely high quality referrals.

Where large numbers of patients are required, Trialfacts also generates referrals from online advertising to appropriate demographics searching for relevant information online. Trialfacts’ unmatched experience in online patient recruitment and utilisation of the Trialfacts optimised website results in an unrivalled ability to provide more referrals, and of a higher quality than any other provider.

Trialfacts online screening software has the capability to assess each patient’s eligibility against the study criteria, prioritise eligible patients into different groups such as whether a patient currently has a cold sore and number of cold sores experienced per year, and provide referrals to appropriate sites based on geography.

ASN has been using Trialfacts for recruitment for clinical trials for over 2 years. We have found that this marketing works effectively to meet the specific recruitment needs for our trials. We have found that the team at Trialfacts have a solid understanding of the issues relating to clinical trials and are enjoyable and professional to work with. We would recommend Trialfacts for clinical trial recruitment.
