Background

Did you know that 75% of older adult hip fracture patients never return to their pre-hip fracture level of daily functioning and mobility?

The University of Texas Medical Branch seeks volunteers to participate in a new approach that may improve the lives of women who’ve had surgery to repair a hip fracture. The purpose of this research study is to investigate the effectiveness of a 6-month gel therapy combined with exercise to potentially improve mobility and the ability to perform daily tasks after hip fracture surgery.

Who Can Participate?

  • Women, aged 65+ years and older
  • Had surgery to repair a hip fracture in the last 5 months
  • The study includes:
    • 6 month individualized, supervised exercise program OR a home exercise program
    • Application of a low-dose hormone replacement gel

Why Participate?

  • You may experience improvements to your hip fracture recovery.
  • You may help other women improve their hip fracture recovery in the future.
  • You will be helping to advance medical research.
