Integrative Exercise or PTSD Recovery Classes: Which Can Help Manage PTSD Better?

Background

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is prevalent among Veterans. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, about 11% to 20% of Veterans are diagnosed with PTSD within a given year. Symptoms of PTSD may start to present within a month of a traumatic event. However, there are times when symptoms appear years later. PTSD can make doing daily tasks difficult and stressful.

The study seeks Veterans aged 18 to 75 years old who experience PTSD symptoms. Participants are required to remotely attend classes 3 times a week for 12 weeks  Classes via telehealth are available for Veterans. Telehealth is the use of electronic and telecommunications technology to support clinical health care. These technologies include videoconferencing, the internet, and streaming media via wireless communication. Participants may get up to $310 for participating in this study. Participation in this study may help Veterans find ways to manage PTSD symptoms.

Your Rights

  • If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
  • Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your health as it relates to the study.

Who Can Participate?

  • Veterans aged 18- 75 years old who are currently experiencing symptoms of PTSD
  • Adults who are physically able to do exercise
  • Able to attend 1-hour classes 3 times a week for 12 weeks remotely via an online platform telehealth 
  • Meet other eligibility criteria
