Although current malaria treatments are effective in most cases, it is estimated that there are up to 1 million deaths from malaria each year, mostly in pregnant women, and children under the age of 5.

Unfortunately, anti-malarial drugs and eradication of mosquitos by insecticides are becoming less effective due to the development of drug and insecticide resistance.

Benefits of Participation

 
This is a trial of a new approach to a malaria vaccine that is being funded by 2 philanthropic organizations. Unlike other malaria vaccine approaches, this may protect against all strains of malaria.

  • You will be compensated up to $1100.00 for your time in the study.
  • This approach may be used to develop a vaccine that may protect against the all strains of malaria.
  • Qualified health professionals will monitor your health.
  • You will be helping to advance medical research.

Your Rights

 

  • If you decide to participate in the study and later feel that you no longer wish to be part of it, you may withdraw at any time.
  • Your records relating to this study and any other information received will be kept strictly confidential.
  • Upon completion, the results of the study will be shared with you.

Who Can Participate?

  • Males aged 18 to 60.
  • Have a BMI of between 18 and 30kg/m2.
  • Are a non-smoker.
  • Are able to attend the clinical study centre at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus on multiple occasions.
